Want To Use Your Pizza Stone For The Second Time? Then Maintain It

Have you ever wondered why the Pizza that you get from genuine brick oven tastes so divine? Have you noticed that Pizza's ordered over the phone does not normally have that evenly baked and crisp feel & taste?
The difference could well be the Pizza stone. The best pizza stones help you to get that perfectly cooked pizza that will not burn on the bottom before the toppings have cooked to your liking.

A pizza stone is a round stoneware platter that sits under the pizza while it bakes. It is a baking stone that is placed on the lowest oven shelf and preheated with the oven. The pizza stones are actually molded sand, tightly packed under high pressure. Since it is made of sand, they absorb any liquid exposed to the surface. Therefore you must use only clean, plain water for cleaning pizza stone before using a pizza stone. Anything else in the water - including soap goes right into the stone and makes it unusable.

How to use a Pizza Stone

The homemade pizza just doesn't taste the same as getting it from the genuine brick oven. Too often the crust of pizza is left doughy while the topping is done, or the bottom burns while waiting for the top to became brown. Getting the pizza to heat evenly seems nearly impossible. But there is a way to do the pizza just like brick oven pizza and that is by using a pizza stone.

The microscopic pores in the pizza stone absorb exuding moisture from the dough while distributing heat evenly throughout the pie. They are best used in making crispy items that cooks the outside of the dough and seals the moisture inside, for more tender taste. For best results always preheat the oven with the stone on the lowest baking rack. Do not place frozen pizza on a hot pizza stone. Allow it to thaw before using the stone.

Maintenance

Never use soap for cleaning pizza stone. Rinse occasionally with water, but never use soap. First, completely submerge your baking stone in warm, clear, plain water for 15 to 20 minutes. This should thoroughly saturate the stone with clean water and dilute the soap residue. Next, remove the stone from the water and place it on a pie cooling rack on your kitchen counter. Allow the stone to dry completely overnight. Repeat the same soaking and drying process five or six nights in a row. After the last round, bake some pizza dough on the stone. If the pizza stone still smells, then it is time to think of buying a new stone.
